How Inference Labs collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use our AI routing and evaluation platform.
Last Updated: February 2025This Privacy Policy ("Policy") is published by Inference Labs, Inc. ("Inference Labs," "we," "our," or "us"), a corporation organized under the laws of the State of Delaware, United States. This Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, store, and protect personal information obtained through our website at inference-labs.com, our web application at app.inference-labs.com, our application programming interfaces (the "API"), and any related services, tools, documentation, or software (together, the "Platform" or "Services").
Inference Labs operates an AI routing, evaluation, and data refinement platform that enables developers, data scientists, engineers, and organizations to intelligently route inference requests across multiple large language model (LLM) providers, monitor and benchmark model performance, optimize inference costs, and prepare and refine training datasets. In delivering these Services, we necessarily process certain information about you and your use of the Platform.
By accessing or using our Services, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to the collection and use of your information in accordance with this Policy. If you do not agree with any part of this Policy, you must not access or use our Services.
This Policy applies to: (a) visitors to inference-labs.com and any subdomain operated by Inference Labs; (b) registered users and account holders of the Inference Labs Platform; (c) API users accessing our Services programmatically; (d) business customers and their authorized end users; and (e) anyone who contacts us for support or information. This Policy does not apply to third-party websites or services linked from our Platform.
Where Inference Labs acts as a data processor on behalf of an enterprise customer, the customer's privacy policy and any data processing agreement (DPA) in force govern the processing of end-user personal data submitted through the Platform. If you are an end user of a business that uses Inference Labs as its AI infrastructure provider, please direct primary privacy inquiries to that business in its capacity as data controller.
For purposes of this Policy: "Personal Data" or "Personal Information" means any information that identifies, relates to, or could reasonably be linked to you as an individual. "Processing" means any operation performed on personal data, including collection, storage, use, disclosure, or deletion. "Trace Data" means prompt content, model responses, and associated metadata captured when the trace logging feature is enabled. "Upstream Providers" means third-party AI model providers to which inference requests are routed by our platform.
We collect information in several ways: directly from you when you register and use the Services, automatically as you interact with the Platform, and occasionally from third-party sources. The following describes each category in detail.
When you create an account, we collect: Identity information (full name, username, optional profile photograph); Contact information (email address, phone number if provided for two-factor authentication); Organizational information (company name, job title, team size, industry sector); Authentication credentials (hashed and salted passwords, or OAuth tokens from identity providers such as Google or GitHub); and Billing information (name, billing address, and last four digits of payment method associated with your subscription). Full payment card numbers are collected and stored exclusively by our payment processor, Stripe, Inc., and are never transmitted to or stored on Inference Labs servers.
We automatically collect data about how you interact with the Platform, including: pages viewed and features accessed; time, date, and duration of sessions; workspace and project configurations created or modified; API keys created or revoked (metadata only, never the secret after initial generation); evaluation runs initiated, models selected, and benchmark results viewed; datasets and annotation projects created; and support tickets submitted.
When you make API calls through our routing layer, we collect and log metadata including: timestamps of requests and responses; the model provider and model version selected or determined by our router; input and output token counts; end-to-end latency and time-to-first-token measurements; calculated cost per request; HTTP status codes, error codes, and failure classifications; and the workspace or project to which the call is attributed.
Important — Prompt and Response Content: By default, Inference Labs does not persistently store the actual text content of your prompts or AI-generated responses. The trace logging feature, which does capture and store prompt and response content, is opt-in only and must be explicitly enabled per workspace by an account administrator. When enabled, stored content is subject to the retention controls and access restrictions described in Sections 7 and 13.
We collect technical information from your browser or API client, including: IP address and approximate geographic location derived from that IP (typically city and country level); browser type, version, and rendering engine; operating system and device type; referring URL; client library or SDK version; and HTTP headers transmitted with API requests.
When you contact us via email, our support portal, or in-app messaging, we retain the content of those communications, your contact details, and the history of our exchanges to enable coherent support over time and improve service quality.
We may receive limited information from: identity providers (Google, GitHub) when you use OAuth sign-in, including your email address, name, and provider account identifier; payment processors (Stripe) confirming successful transactions; fraud detection services flagging account anomalies; and business enrichment services that provide firmographic data based on your email domain, where we use such services.
We use the information we collect for specific, legitimate purposes directly related to operating the Inference Labs platform and maintaining our relationship with you. We do not use your personal data for purposes incompatible with those disclosed here.
The primary purpose is to provide and operate the Inference Labs platform. This encompasses: creating and managing your account and workspaces; authenticating your identity; routing API requests to the appropriate AI model providers; generating real-time usage dashboards and cost attribution reports; enabling team collaboration within workspaces; processing subscription billing; and providing technical support.
We use technical data, account metadata, and behavioral signals to protect the integrity of the platform and all of its users. This includes detecting and blocking unauthorized access attempts, enforcing rate limits and usage quotas to prevent API abuse, identifying anomalous usage patterns that may indicate a compromised API key, screening new account registrations for indicators of fraudulent activity, and investigating security incidents.
We analyze aggregated and de-identified usage patterns to understand how the platform is used, identify high-value features, diagnose performance bottlenecks and software bugs, and inform our engineering and product roadmap. We may use de-identified data to improve our proprietary routing algorithms, latency prediction models, and cost optimization recommendations. We do not use personally identifiable information for model training without your explicit separate consent.
We use your contact information to send: Transactional messages (account confirmations, password resets, billing receipts, usage alerts, critical security notifications — these are essential to the service and cannot be opted out while you maintain an active account); Product updates (new features, API changes, maintenance windows — you may opt out at any time via account notification settings or unsubscribe link); and Marketing communications (where you have given explicit consent or where applicable law permits based on our legitimate interest in communicating with existing customers — you may withdraw consent at any time with no effect on service access).
We process personal data as required to comply with applicable laws, including: tax reporting and financial record-keeping; responding to lawfully issued subpoenas, court orders, or regulatory demands; complying with export control and sanctions regulations; and fulfilling obligations under consumer protection, employment, or corporate law.
For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, applicable data protection law requires us to identify a valid legal basis for each category of personal data processing. The table below maps our primary processing activities to their legal bases under GDPR Article 6.
| Processing Activity | Legal Basis (GDPR Art. 6) |
|---|---|
| Account creation and identity management | Performance of contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Processing and routing API requests | Performance of contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) |

Where we rely on legitimate interests as our legal basis, we have conducted a balancing test to confirm that our interests do not override your fundamental rights and freedoms. Our legitimate interests include: operating a commercially viable technology business; protecting the security and integrity of our platform; understanding how our products are used so we can improve them; and communicating relevant information to our customer base. We believe these interests are balanced and proportionate given the nature of data processed and the reasonable expectations of users of a professional B2B SaaS platform.
Where we rely on your consent as the legal basis (primarily for marketing communications), you may withdraw that consent at any time by updating your communication preferences in account settings, clicking the unsubscribe link in any marketing email, or contacting us at [email protected]. Withdrawal is prospective only and does not affect the lawfulness of prior processing.
Inference Labs does not sell, rent, license, or trade your personal information to any third party for their own independent marketing, advertising, or commercial purposes. We share your information only in the specific, limited circumstances described in this section.
We engage carefully vetted third-party companies to help us operate the Platform. These sub-processors are permitted to access personal data only to the extent necessary to perform services for us, are contractually prohibited from using that data for any other purpose, and are required to implement appropriate data protection safeguards. Our principal sub-processors include:
We maintain a current list of sub-processors available upon request at [email protected]. Enterprise customers operating under a Data Processing Agreement receive advance written notice of any material sub-processor changes.
We may disclose your personal data if required to do so in order to: (a) comply with any applicable law, legal process, or enforceable governmental request; (b) enforce our Terms of Service or other agreements, including investigating potential violations; (c) detect, prevent, or address fraud, security vulnerabilities, or threats to our platform or users; or (d) protect the rights, property, or safety of Inference Labs, our users, or the public. Where legally permissible, we will attempt to notify affected users prior to such disclosure.
If Inference Labs is involved in a merger, acquisition, sale of assets, financing, or other corporate reorganization, your personal information may be transferred to or shared with the acquiring or surviving entity. We will provide at least thirty (30) days advance notice by email or prominent Platform notice before your personal data becomes subject to a materially different privacy policy as a result of such a transaction.
We may compile, share, and publish aggregated or de-identified information derived from Platform usage, such as industry benchmarks comparing model performance or cost metrics, where such information cannot reasonably be used to identify any individual user. Such data is not personal information and is not subject to this Policy.
A defining characteristic of the Inference Labs platform is its role as an intelligent intermediary that routes AI inference requests to third-party large language model providers ("Upstream Providers") on behalf of our users. This section explains what data is transmitted to Upstream Providers, under what circumstances, and what obligations apply.
As of the date of this Policy, Inference Labs supports routing to the following Upstream Providers (subject to change as we add or remove integrations):
When an API request is routed through our system, the following is transmitted in the outbound API call to the selected Upstream Provider:
Inference Labs does not include your personal account data (name, email, organization), billing information, or internal platform metadata in inference request payloads transmitted to Upstream Providers.
Each Upstream Provider independently determines how it handles data received through its API, including data retention and whether API data is used to train AI models. Inference Labs has no control over Upstream Provider data practices and accepts no responsibility for them. We strongly encourage you to review each provider's data usage policies before enabling routing to that provider:
If you use Inference Labs to process personal data belonging to third parties — such as your own customers, application users, or employees — you bear responsibility as the data controller for ensuring: (a) you have a valid legal basis to process and transfer such data; (b) your privacy notices adequately disclose the use of AI infrastructure providers including Inference Labs and the relevant Upstream Providers; and (c) your use complies with all applicable sector-specific regulations (e.g., HIPAA for healthcare data, FERPA for educational records, PCI DSS for payment card data). Inference Labs does not make representations about the platform's suitability for regulated data categories without a specific written agreement.
Inference Labs retains personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and support legitimate business operations.
Account information is retained for the duration of your active account relationship and for three (3) years following permanent account closure. This post-closure retention supports dispute resolution, financial record-keeping, and fraud prevention obligations.
All billing records, invoices, payment transaction logs, and subscription history are retained for a minimum of seven (7) years from the date of the underlying transaction, in accordance with U.S. federal and applicable state tax and financial record-keeping requirements.
Request metadata — timestamps, token counts, routing decisions, latency, cost attributions, and error logs — is retained for ninety (90) days by default on Free Trial, Starter, and Professional plans. Enterprise plan customers may configure extended metadata retention up to two (2) years through workspace settings or their Data Processing Agreement.
When trace logging is enabled, captured prompt and response content is stored with a default retention window of thirty (30) days. Workspace administrators may reduce this to as little as one (1) day or disable trace storage entirely. Upon disabling, existing traces outside the new window are queued for secure deletion and purged within seventy-two (72) hours.
Support interactions and customer communications are retained for three (3) years from the date of the last interaction, supporting quality assurance and dispute resolution.
When you request account deletion, we will initiate deletion within thirty (30) days. Personal data not subject to a legal retention obligation will be deleted or irreversibly anonymized within this window. Data in encrypted off-site backups may persist for up to an additional ninety (90) days before being overwritten in the normal backup rotation cycle. We will provide written confirmation when deletion is complete, and inform you of any data categories retained beyond the standard deletion period and the legal basis for such retention.
Inference Labs is headquartered in the United States and provides a globally accessible service. Personal data we collect may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States or in other countries where our service providers maintain infrastructure. The data protection laws of those countries may differ from and in some cases may be less comprehensive than the laws of your country of residence.
When we transfer personal data from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland to countries that have not received an adequacy determination, we rely on one or more of the following safeguards:
Inference Labs monitors developments relating to the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (DPF) and its UK Extension. We are evaluating self-certification under the DPF and will update this Policy to reflect our participation status when applicable. In the interim, Standard Contractual Clauses serve as our primary legal mechanism for transatlantic data transfers.
You may request a copy of the specific transfer safeguards applicable to processing of your personal data by contacting [email protected]. Certain provisions may be redacted where they contain confidential commercial information of our sub-processors, but we will provide as much detail as legally permissible.
Depending on your country of residence and the applicable data protection law, you may have certain legal rights with respect to the personal data we hold about you. We are committed to honoring these rights promptly, transparently, and free of charge (subject to the exceptions noted below).
If you are located in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have the following rights under the GDPR and applicable national implementing legislation:
To exercise any of the rights above, please email [email protected] with the subject line "Privacy Rights Request" and include your full name, your account email address, and a clear description of the right you wish to exercise and the specific data concerned. We may ask you to verify your identity to protect against unauthorized access. We will acknowledge receipt within five (5) business days and respond substantively within thirty (30) calendar days of receiving a verified request. For complex requests, we may extend by up to two (2) additional months with prior written notice.
If you believe we have processed your personal data in a manner that does not comply with applicable law, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority in your country. A directory of EU data protection authorities is maintained at edpb.europa.eu. UK residents may contact the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. Swiss residents may contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) at edoeb.admin.ch.
Inference Labs takes a deliberate, minimal approach to browser-based tracking technologies. We have intentionally avoided third-party advertising and analytics cookies and are fully transparent about the very limited browser storage we do use.
HttpOnly (inaccessible to JavaScript), Secure (transmitted only over HTTPS), and SameSite=Strict (not sent on cross-site requests). It expires when your browser session ends or when you log out, whichever comes first;localStorage under the key il_theme. This preference is purely local to your browser, is never transmitted to our servers, and persists until you clear your browser storage or change your preference.Inference Labs does not deploy advertising cookies, behavioral tracking pixels, third-party analytics platforms such as Google Analytics, social media tracking scripts, cross-site tracking technologies, device fingerprinting libraries, heat-mapping tools, session recording software, or any other mechanism designed to follow your activity across multiple websites or build advertising profiles. We do not partner with any third-party advertising networks.
You can manage cookies through your browser's built-in settings. Disabling the authentication session cookie will prevent you from logging in to the Platform until a new session cookie is issued upon your next successful authentication. Clearing localStorage will reset your theme preference to the platform default (dark mode). Guidance on managing cookies is available from your browser developer's documentation pages.
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. Because Inference Labs does not engage in the cross-site tracking behaviors that DNT is designed to address, we do not respond to DNT signals in any specific technical manner. Our baseline behavior already aligns with the privacy preferences that DNT represents.
Protecting the security of your data is a foundational priority for Inference Labs. We implement a comprehensive, defense-in-depth security program that applies technical, administrative, and organizational safeguards to protect against unauthorized access, accidental loss, destruction, or alteration of personal data.
Access to production systems and customer data is governed by strict role-based access control (RBAC). Production environment access is limited to personnel who require it for their job functions. All such access is logged to an immutable audit trail. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is mandatory for all Inference Labs personnel accessing production infrastructure and code repositories. Access rights are reviewed quarterly and revoked immediately upon role change or departure.
The Inference Labs platform runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS), which maintains SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, and other relevant security certifications. At the application and network layer, we implement: network segmentation and VPC isolation; Web Application Firewalls (WAF); DDoS mitigation via Cloudflare; automated vulnerability scanning of application dependencies and container images; and third-party penetration testing conducted at least annually, with critical findings remediated within 24 hours, high within 7 days, and medium within 30 days.
We maintain a documented Security Incident Response Plan tested through tabletop exercises. In the event of a confirmed data breach affecting personal data, we will: contain the incident as rapidly as possible; notify affected users by email within 72 hours of determining that a breach has occurred (as required by GDPR Article 33 and other applicable law); report to relevant supervisory authorities within required timeframes; and provide a post-incident report describing the breach, data categories affected, likely consequences, and remediation measures.
Effective security is a shared responsibility. You play an important role by: using a strong, unique password not reused from other services; enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) on your account; treating API keys as secrets and never embedding them in client-side code or public repositories; promptly revoking any API keys suspected of compromise; and notifying us immediately at [email protected] if you become aware of unauthorized access to your account or any security vulnerability in our platform.
The Inference Labs platform is a professional software-as-a-service product designed and directed exclusively toward business users, developers, data scientists, and organizations. Our Services are not intended for, and must not be used by, children under the age of sixteen (16) years, or the equivalent minimum digital consent age in the user's jurisdiction (e.g., 13 years in the United States under COPPA, or 16 years in many EU member states under the GDPR).
We do not knowingly collect, solicit, or process personal information from children under the applicable age threshold. We do not direct any marketing or product communications toward minors. Our account registration process requires users to affirm that they meet the minimum age requirement.
If we learn or have reason to believe that we have inadvertently collected personal data from a child below the applicable minimum age without verifiable parental consent, we will take prompt steps to investigate and, where confirmed, delete that data from our systems within thirty (30) days of discovery.
If you are a parent or legal guardian and believe your child has registered for our Services or that we may hold personal data relating to your child, please contact us immediately at [email protected]. We will cooperate fully to investigate and address the issue.
Given the AI-centric nature of the Inference Labs platform, this section addresses specific privacy considerations arising from the prompts, AI-generated outputs, evaluation traces, and training datasets that flow through our infrastructure.
Subject to applicable restrictions in our Terms of Service and the terms of the applicable Upstream Provider, you retain all rights, title, and interest in and to: (a) the input prompts and context you submit to the platform; and (b) the AI-generated outputs you receive in response. Inference Labs does not claim any intellectual property rights in your prompt content or in AI-generated outputs. Our Terms of Service provide additional detail on intellectual property allocation.
Trace logging, when enabled on a workspace, captures the full request-response exchange including prompt content, model configuration parameters, AI-generated output text, and associated metadata. Traces are stored in an encrypted, workspace-isolated data store. Access to traces within the platform is governed by workspace-level permission settings; only workspace members with an appropriate role (Administrator, Developer) can view trace content. Inference Labs personnel cannot access the content of traces stored in your workspace except in the following strictly limited and logged circumstances: (a) where necessary to investigate a confirmed security incident affecting your workspace, limited to the minimum data necessary; (b) where you have provided explicit written authorization for a specific technical support purpose; or (c) where required by applicable law or court order, in which case we will notify you to the extent legally permissible. All such access is logged to an immutable audit trail.
We encourage users to avoid including personal data about third parties in prompts unless necessary and unless an appropriate legal basis exists for such processing. To assist with this, Inference Labs offers an optional PII Detection and Redaction feature at the workspace level. When enabled, this feature applies pattern-matching to identify common PII categories — including names, email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses, social security numbers, and financial identifiers — and replaces them with labeled anonymization tokens (e.g., [EMAIL_REDACTED]) before the request is forwarded to the Upstream Provider. The original pre-redaction prompt text is not stored by the redaction service.
Inference Labs does not use your trace data, input prompts, or AI-generated outputs to train, fine-tune, evaluate, or otherwise improve any machine learning models operated by Inference Labs or any third party, without your separate, explicit, opt-in consent. Trace data is used exclusively to provide you with the trace viewing, evaluation, and analytics features you have enabled within your workspace.
If you use Inference Labs' data refinement or dataset curation capabilities, the datasets you import, create, or generate remain exclusively your property. We process dataset content only to provide the requested curation, annotation, and quality filtering tooling. Dataset content is not shared with third parties, is not used for any purpose beyond the specific workflow you have initiated, and is subject to the same retention and deletion provisions described in Section 7. Datasets are stored in encrypted, workspace-isolated storage accessible only to authorized workspace members.
Inference Labs may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our data practices, the Services we offer, applicable laws or regulatory guidance, or our organizational structure. When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
For material changes — meaning changes that significantly affect how we collect, use, share, or protect your personal data, or that meaningfully alter your privacy rights — we will provide advance notice through one or more of the following channels at least fourteen (14) days before the changes become effective:
Non-material changes (clarifications, typographical corrections, contact detail updates) take effect immediately upon posting and do not require advance notice. Your continued use of the Services following the effective date of an updated Policy constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms. If you do not agree with the changes, you must stop using the Services prior to the effective date and may submit an account deletion request as described in Section 9. We maintain a version history of this Policy, available upon request at [email protected].
This section is addressed specifically to residents of the State of California and supplements the information provided in the rest of this Policy, pursuant to the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (Cal. Civ. Code 1798.100 et seq.) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020 (collectively, "CCPA/CPRA").
In the preceding twelve (12) months, Inference Labs has collected personal information in the following CCPA-defined categories:
Inference Labs has not sold or shared personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising in the preceding twelve (12) months, and does not intend to do so.
To submit a verifiable California consumer rights request, email [email protected] with the subject line "California Privacy Rights Request," including your full name, account email address, and the specific right you wish to exercise.
